YEMEN FACING CALAMITY WITH COVID-19

Updated: Dec 23, 2020

On Friday, April 10, 2020, Yemen, announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the country. Health officials have been dreading a scenario like this for weeks. Now Yemen could face its most difficult period in over 100 years.

Yemen, which is currently facing a civil war with more than 3 warring parties vying for dominance, is being subjected to a near total land, air and sea blockade by the Arab Coalition. More than half of all health facilities are essentially nonfunctional,

and nearly 80 percent of the population is in need of some form of humanitarian assistance.

Ten million people are in danger of famine, 7 million people are malnourished, and over half a million children are 'acutely' malnourished. Now with COVID-19 likely spreading unseen, Yemen is on the doorstep of a calamity and the world needs to give them the attention they desperately need.
